If you are interested in beauty and makeup in the least bit, you would have heard about Rihanna’s new beauty line, Fenty Beauty, by now. This brand has been in development for the past few years, and Riri finally blessed the beauty world with her creation at the beginning of September. This line has since been celebrated throughout the blogging/vlogging/instagram universe as a role model of inclusivity, while being totally glam, and budget friendly without cutting corners in quality. So, now the question is – does the product live up to its online hype? Is it worth it to those of us who are not instagram models? Well, I tested it out – and I’ll give you all you need to know!
First things first, I purchased 3 products at my nearest Sephora. While you can buy online from Sephora or the Fenty Beauty website, I highly suggest getting into a location where you can actually try the products on – especially the foundation. There are 40 shades of the foundation alone! While that may not seem like much on paper, this means that this foundation covers most everyone – no matter their shade or tone. For me, my olive tone was perfectly represented when I got shade matched – although my shade was sold out (!!!!) I was able to get another great match with a second shade. If, like me, you have a hard time with foundation oxidizing on your skin, making you look orange/yellow/ashy – this foundation promises never to do that. Rihanna actually did an Instagram clapback to another famous beauty company to this effect – further backing up her line’s claims to inclusivity. Nobody likes orange or ashy skin!
My verdict? This foundation is awesome. It applies smoothly, and isn’t chalky, orange, or ashy. I also love that it has some major coverage, and isn’t heavy feeling on your skin. It’s that kind of makeup that you forget you’re wearing (for real) which is only something I’ve experienced when wearing pricey Dior airbrush foundation or a light coverage BB cream. It covered all my redness and some scarring I have on my face, but wasn’t so crazy thick that it covered my freckles completely. I’ve worn this foundation for about a month now, and I really enjoy that I can just throw it on and not worry about it melting off my face in the middle of the day. This stuff has made it through me taking photos at a family wedding, affectionate baby face-rubs, and full days at work. Most days I just put the Fenty Beauty foundation on my moisturized face, add some under-eye concealer, mascara, and a little work to my eyebrows, and I’m off to work in about 5 minutes. While I wasn’t able to get my exact match in the foundation, I’m still happy with the shade I chose, as when I’m tanned, it will be a close match. Check out my before/after photos below!
I also purchased the Killawatt Highlighter in the much buzzed about Trophy Wife. While I do love the colour and sparkle that this stuff brings to the table, it is a little too “extra” for me to wear often, and it will probably be one of those things that comes out to play on special occasions. Nothing against the product, mind you, but it’s just not something I’ll be putting on my face on the daily. There are other shades of highlighter in this line, so maybe in the future I would try the Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby combo as it follows the champagne/peachy look that I prefer.
Finally, I also purchased the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer (aka Lip Gloss). This product isn’t sticky and stays on as well as any lip gloss that I’ve tried. I love the scent of this as well! Smells sort of like gummy bears? I also think it’s a bonus that this is a real deal universal colour. Check out the video below (via Fenty Beauty) to see how many different skin tones look amazing in this gloss!
- The Pro Filt’r Foundation has amazing coverage, is light but long lasting, and covers a huge range of skintones without being orange or ashy. Totally worth the $42 (CDN).
- The Killawatt Highlighter has great colour payoff, and is packed with glitter and shimmer. If you’re a highlighter addict, this is a total “buy”. If you’re not, you may want to spend your money on something else – or maybe just buy a shade of the highlighter that isn’t bright gold 🙂
- The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer smells great and makes your lips look plump and kissable, no matter what your colouring. Of course it’s a buy!
I hope you guys enjoyed my run down of (some) of the Fenty Beauty line! Let me know in the comments if you like this kind of post from me, or connect with me on my Facebook page.
Have a great night! 🙂
